Controller says tax-collection fund reconciliation remains top risk; IT fixes expected by year-end

Scott Ford, Davis County controller, told the Audit Committee the tax-collection fund reconciliation has been a lengthy, resource-intensive effort and that IS (information services) is prioritizing fixes.
"Our expectation is that we will have several of these fixes in place before the end of this calendar year," Ford said, adding: "By the time we do our next final settlement, I'm hoping that our bank balance is reconciled. We all agree what it should be, and the distribution matches that." He described the work as the "highest risk" currently facing the office.
Ford said meetings with IT have included whiteboarding and collaborative problem solving; he emphasized that some issues might still require an independent IT systems auditor to verify fixes once management implements them. Committee members praised the collaboration and said progress has been made.
