Rodeo committee faults arena staff for late rental agreement, communication breakdowns
Summary
Rodeo representatives told the advisory committee they received the rental agreement only on May 5 for an event starting May 29, had been locked out of parts of the facility, and reported unsafe arena conditions. The committee sought clearer communication channels with HR and arena staff.

A rodeo representative (S4) told the committee the rodeo has endured repeated communication problems with arena staff and county HR, and that the committee had not received a rental agreement until May 5 despite an event start date of May 29. S4 said the meeting with HR ‘‘was calm’’ but resulted in only a commitment to communicate via text and email.
S4 described safety problems during a recent queen contest, saying the arena footing was slick and “we actually had a girl fall off her horse because the horse slipped,” and that tractors and panels were left in configurations that made tying animals unsafe. S4 said, “We were locked out of the facility, only having access on the South end,” which forced trucks and trailers to use a steep, single gate and raised emergency-access concerns. The committee requested a written summary of the incidents and follow-up from staff and HR.
The committee discussed the impact on sponsorship and promotion: S4 said the rodeo could not promote sponsors effectively without reliable facility access. Committee members asked staff to reconcile communication channels, dispatch missing rental agreements earlier, and confirm arena-staff responsibilities before the next event.
