Commission approves health-insurance RFP option after 27.61% renewal increase

County Coordinator Lisa Zahl told commissioners Sept. 3 that the county’s 2025 health-insurance renewal reflected a 27.61% increase over the prior year and that the increase would be split 50/50 between the county and employees. The Insurance Committee recommended issuing an RFP to seek potential savings or different provider options.
Consultant Gallagher presented two options: (1) keep current service levels, raise the annual fee from $5,000 to $8,000 and charge $9,000 for the RFP; or (2) increase services with a $25,000 annual fee or a 3% commission and charge $6,000 for the RFP. Zahl said she preferred option one; Commissioner Chad Metz moved to proceed with option one and Commissioner Dwight Nelson seconded. The board approved the motion 4-0.
