Commission recommends Summers Agricultural Protection Area contingent on AHZ rezoning
Summary
The Planning Commission unanimously recommended the Summers family’s Agricultural Protection Area request (APA25-15) be forwarded to the County Commission contingent on approval of the related AHZ rezoning (Z25-010).
The Planning Commission voted on Aug. 14 to forward a recommendation that the County Commission approve an Agricultural Protection Area (APA25-15) for multiple parcels owned by Summers family members in the Thatcher area, contingent on County Commission approval of the companion Agricultural Heritage Zone rezoning (Z25-010).
Commissioner Jed Pugsley stated the commission understood the APA recommendation depended on the County Commission first approving the rezoning. The motion to forward the APA was made by Commissioner Jed Pugsley, seconded by Commissioner Jared Holmgren, and passed unanimously. The applicant had told the commission the properties represent a family farming operation and sought APA and AHZ protections to help preserve agricultural stewardship across generations.
Because the Planning Commission’s action is a recommendation, final APA designation requires County Commission action and any conditions of compliance noted by staff.
