Sheridan County, City to update Joint Land Use Plan; county to fund one-third of consultant costs

The Sheridan County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved a City/County Cooperative Agreement to update the Joint Planning Area (JPA) component of the county’s Comprehensive Plan, a move County Planner Mark Reid said will help coordinate future land‑use designations around the City of Sheridan.
County Planner Mark Reid said the JPA—last updated in 2017—will guide decisions about urban residential, rural residential, light industrial, heavy commercial and agricultural designations. He said the update process will begin with soliciting a Statement of Qualifications, followed by a Request for Proposals to select a consultant. Reid told the Board there is no immediate cost to the county; once an RFP is finalized and a consultant selected the County will be responsible for one‑third of the total cost, to be funded from Optional One‑Cent tax revenues.
Commissioner Lonnie J. Wright moved to approve the cooperative agreement; the motion passed unanimously. The Board did not set a consultant budget or timeline at the meeting; next steps are issuance of the SOQ and RFP and later budgeting of the county’s share when a proposal is received.
