The Montrose City Council conditionally approved a special-event application for a community music festival planned for the last weekend of July, authorizing organizer Matt Fockler to host the 2026 event provided liability insurance is filed with the city office. Action 26-055 passed by roll call with no opposition.
Fockler asked the city to act as a fiscal agent for potential future grant funds as he pursues nonprofit status; Finance Officer Nicole Siemonsma outlined the city's donation and grant procedures. The council declined a request to place a new ground pole for banners near the softball field entrance because of traffic concerns and buried lines; instead members proposed hanging banners from existing power-line poles across East Main Street and required that banners not hang below 13 ft. 6 in. to allow semi trucks clearance. The finance office will check with Southeastern Electric about the proposed banner locations before final installation.
