Montrose council outlines renovation, electrical inspection for baseball building

Council considered renovation plans for the community baseball building and discussed liability and safety concerns raised by the city attorney and the South Dakota Public Assurance Alliance (SDPAA). Finance Officer Nicole Siemonsma reported SDPAA guidance: "If there have been \"no electrical upgrades in the past 30 years or so\", then one can safely assume the system is at high risk for fires, failures, and electrical shocks." Siemonsma said SDPAA recommended an electrical inspection before allowing further public use of the facility.
Council members reviewed planned repair tasks and allocated responsibilities. Council Hanisch and Maintenance Hanisch will lead work to raise the roof, add or repair concrete floors, adjust plumbing, relocate doors, and make restrooms ADA-compliant. The council also agreed to hire Eie Electric for electrical work as needed, close the building to the public for 2026 during renovation, and provide porta-potty rentals for summer ball activities. Volunteers were invited to help with door hanging and painting.
