She said four burials occurred in January, one plot was sold and two headstones set, and that there were 27 burials in total for the prior year.
During public comment, Roberta Nichols — who said she has lived in Magna for more than 70 years — asked whether the city intended to purchase a church property on Broadway located across from her residence and whether selling the cemetery was under consideration. She expressed concern about dignity at the cemetery and criticized spending on so-called "black boxes," asking the council to invest in cemetery improvements if the city could not acquire property. Council members and staff did not make any commitments on acquisition at the Jan. 27 meeting but said staff would follow up with property-ownership inquiries and next steps.
