Commissioner: county evaluates data-center proposals based on infrastructure and community benefit, not active recruitment

Transit Director Rick Szabrak and Engineer's Administrator Cheryl Downour updated the board on transportation and infrastructure projects and discussed planning related to a proposed Millersport data-center project. Szabrak said many proposals originate from companies contacting landowners and noted the county must evaluate each based on available infrastructure and contribution to community needs.
Commissioner Jeff Fix told the meeting Fairfield County is not actively recruiting data centers but will evaluate qualified proposals based on whether projects will pay for needed infrastructure and power upgrades that benefit residents and future development. "Fairfield County is not actively recruiting data centers but evaluates proposals that meet the County's established standards, including whether the project will pay for improved infrastructure and power that will benefit residents and future development," he said.
The board reiterated the need to assess any large development proposal for its net benefit to community infrastructure and services before advancing approvals or incentives.
