Montrose City Council reported the city was approved to receive up to $1,950 under a 2026 forestry grant from the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR). The council approved the finance officer’s recommendation to purchase tree species listed by the nursery (excluding Gingko Gold) and set May 16, 2026 as the volunteer tree-planting date (Action 26-007).
The FO said she would contact the MCM football coach to recruit volunteers for planting. The grant is a small, targeted allocation intended to support street- or park‑tree plantings; council emphasized species selection and volunteer coordination but did not allocate additional cash beyond approved purchases tied to the grant.
Council recorded the action by unanimous roll call and will follow standard planting and volunteer-notice procedures before May.
