Montrose council approves $1,300 Sioux Metro Growth Alliance membership

The Montrose City Council voted Jan. 13 to join the Sioux Metro Growth Alliance (SMGA) for a $1,300 annual membership fee. Tyler Tordsen, an SMGA representative, told council the organization has served cities and counties around Sioux Falls for roughly 35 years and that membership includes EDPA and South Dakota Tourism participation.
When Finance Officer Nicole Siemonsma asked for ideas targeted to Montrose, Tordsen said SMGA could provide resources and marketing support tailored to small communities. The motion to approve the membership (Action 26-003) passed unanimously.
The membership is intended to provide the city with regional advocacy, marketing channels and information on growth opportunities; the council did not earmark additional budget beyond the membership fee. The council asked staff to follow up on concrete deliverables and to report back if SMGA engagements are pursued further.
