Montrose approves $99,850 First Avenue water-main replacement and two hydrant upgrades

On Dec. 9, 2025, the Montrose City Council approved a capital-improvement water-main replacement on First Avenue with Twedt Construction for $99,850 and authorized replacement of two fire hydrants from Core&Main for $11,800 (Action 25-157). Councilmember Hanisch moved the approval and Councilmember Scheff seconded; the motion passed by unanimous roll call.
Finance Officer Nicole Siemonsma told the council the First Avenue replacement will require about a week and a half of traffic control, temporary water supply hookups for affected homes on the two-block project, and water samples submitted to the state lab during and after the replacement. The contract work includes trenching into the existing asphalt toward the west side of First Avenue. The council directed that a budget supplement from enterprise funds be prepared in January to cover the project costs.
