Union City Borough approved submitting an application to Erie County for up to $100,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to help repair stormwater infrastructure in Municipal Lot #1. Councilor Steadman moved to authorize the application, Councilor Osborn seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips described the remediation plan that preceded the grant request and urged the council to support the application. According to Phillips, Mansfield will "fill the sink hole and replace approximately 10' of pipe and install the new catch basin," and a smoke-and-dye test will follow once those repairs are completed. The borough is seeking quotes for paving the repaired area and will notify nearby business owners and the Union City Volunteer Fire Department when testing is scheduled.
Council members framed the CDBG request as a partial funding source for repairs; the motion to apply does not obligate the borough to full project funding. Next steps include receiving contractor quotes, scheduling the smoke-and-dye test, and submitting the county grant application for consideration.
