Council awards $22,295 contract to repair sinkhole and pipe at Municipal Lot #1

Union City Borough authorized repair work at Municipal Lot #1 after the borough's Streets Supervisor and outside consultants identified a sinkhole and failing 24" clay tile pipe. Council voted unanimously Aug. 13 to award the work to Mansfield at a price of $22,295.
Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips reported that the sinkhole had compromised the 24" clay tile line and recommended replacement of about 10' of pipe, reconnection of the contributing pipes, and installation of a larger catch basin adjacent to the sinkhole. Consultant Bob Carpenter (Insight) and engineer Tim Wells advised lining the pipes in sections and provided construction recommendations. Two estimates were received—Mansfield at $22,295 and McLallen Construction at $23,450—and both required the borough to supply a truck during the project. Councilor Steadman moved the contract award and Councilor Osborn seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
The borough will coordinate scheduling, provide the required truck, and instruct the streets department on oversight during construction.
