Board flags spike in utilities costs, seeks solar-vendor answers

Presenter Sue Versa told the board that year-to-date electric charges for the middle school rose from about $79,000 to $107,000 between July and January, which she described as roughly a 30'9% increase. "I looked at the bills today and between the solar and JCP&L we've already paid out from July to January 107,000 dollars. Last year at that time, we've only paid out 79,000," she said.
Versa said the district has reached out to its solar vendor after seeing lower-than-expected generation from one unit and that she will follow up: "I have reached out to the solar company because back in June, I realized that they weren't generating any, any solar," she said. Board members discussed the increased utility expense as a material budget pressure to be monitored in the coming weeks.
