DRC recommends NuCedar PVC shingles for 173 Church Street despite material bylaws

Herman Raspé and Shawn Parker asked the Dorset Design Review Committee for permission to replace all exterior siding at 173 Church Street with NuCedar shingles manufactured from PVC.
Raspé described the product as PVC that "outperforms any cedar out there and carries a lifetime warranty," and said the shakes will be ribbed to mimic wood grain and finished in a "super white" color. Committee members reviewed the relevant bylaws, including 2203.L.1.a requiring painted horizontal wood or fiber cement clapboards or shingles, and 2203.L.2 on color (exterior siding and trim must be painted white unless historic evidence indicates otherwise). After discussion L. Bowden moved to approve the application as proposed; Kit Wallace seconded and the committee approved unanimously. The recommendation will be forwarded to the Planning Commission for final permit action.
