Design panel recommends door, window and ADA ramp changes for Dorset Properties building

Kit Wallace, chair of the Dorset Design Review Committee, said the Feb. 17 meeting considered a follow-up application from Andrew Chila, contractor for Dorset Properties, LLC, to relocate a door and window, add one window and install an ADA ramp on the building’s south side.
Chila presented updated specifications and photos and confirmed the replacement windows will be Marvin double-hung units specified as 6-over-6 to match existing muntin patterns. "The doors will be made of fiberglass with the glass above, just like existing and will have 9 panes," Chila said, and he reported the south-side door measures 38 inches wide to accommodate wheelchair access. He described the ramp as a wood deck with balustrades modeled on a local porch photo submitted to the committee.
Committee members reviewed the applicable design bylaws, including 2203.L.3.e and 2203.L.3.f on replacement windows and muntins and 2203.L.5.d on posts and balustrades matching the building style. The committee asked for a ramp corner/detail drawing for the file and confirmed decking material and path proposals. Ruth Tanenhaus moved to approve the application as proposed and Lindy Bowden seconded; the motion passed unanimously. The committee’s approval is a recommendation to the Planning Commission, and any permit issued after PC action will be subject to a 15-day appeal period.
