Selectboard backs state-led acquisition of 136-acre Connors parcel adjacent to Emerald Lake State Park

Hayden Smith of the Trust for Public Land told the Dorset Selectboard that TPL and Vermont Forests & Parks are in the process of acquiring a 136-acre property owned by the Connors family that abuts Emerald Lake State Park. The State Parks Division would take ownership and conduct an assessment to determine best uses for the parcel after acquisition.
Board members discussed ecological and conservation values on the property and noted municipal fiscal impacts. "The Town would lose some of the tax revenue on the parcel, but would still receive a State payment (PILOT)," the minutes record. The board reached a consensus to support the acquisition, citing benefits to the State and the community.
