Union City accepts officer resignation, authorizes background checks and approves a police contract
Summary
Council accepted the resignation of part-time Officer Rick Skonieczka, authorized background checks to hire two part-time officers from the civil service list, and, after executive session, approved a police contract for Zackery Shelly.
At the Oct. 7 meeting, the council accepted a resignation letter dated Sept. 18, 2024 from Officer Rick Skonieczka, effective no later than Sept. 30, 2024. The motion to accept the resignation was made by Councilor Joyce and seconded by Councilor Steadman and carried.
The Civil Service certified list (two candidates) was presented; Chief Pernice requested permission to proceed with background checks and to hire two part-time officers. Council approved completing background checks for two part-time officers from the certified list (motion by Councilor Joyce, seconded by Councilor Steadman). Following the executive sessions, the council also moved to approve a police contract for Zackery Shelly (motion by Councilor Steadman, seconded by Councilor Kerns).
