Police Chief David Pernice told the council he has been unable to reach the new hire approved at the previous meeting and is assuming the person is no longer interested. He said he plans to contact the consortium (he reported there are 32 candidates on that list), set up oral exams through the Civil Service Commission and send letters to prospective applicants.
Pernice said his preference remains hiring two part‑time officers though only one position was authorized by council. Councilors agreed to proceed with a search for one part‑time officer and asked the chief to follow Civil Service procedures before returning with candidates or exam dates.
