Staff told the board that the Stewart Street tank project has advanced to the commissioning phase for the first tank and that commissioning could be completed in the next two weeks. Project leads credited utility staff for progress after earlier delays and said that once the first tank is placed into service staff will immediately turn to the second tank with a goal of both tanks online by August.
The timing is important for fire season because temporary tank outages reduce available fire flow; staff said they will coordinate with the fire chief about mutual aid water tenders and possible staffing adjustments while tanks are partially out of service. Directors asked for a short written update to finance and resource committees and to add a completion objective to the strategic plan with a target in the 3rd quarter of 2026.
