Keith Carver, senior vice chancellor/senior vice president for the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture, gave a broad update on the institute's outreach and research work. Carver said UT Extension operates in all 95 counties, UT researches on roughly 41,000 acres across 10 research farms, and the institute reached audiences via about 18 million online downloads last year. "Our mission is really simple. It's just to provide real life solutions for Tennesseans as an extension of the land grant university," Carver told the committee.
Carver highlighted several applied projects: an expansion of service‑dog veterinary support in East Tennessee in partnership with Erlanger, college efforts in animal and plant science workforce development, emergency response work after Hurricane Helene and turfgrass research contracted to grow turf for multiple World Cup stadiums. Members asked about public information campaigns to address food‑safety narratives and interest in a soil and water health dashboard; Carver offered to return with additional data.
