Public Works Director Michael Bollweg told the council that one of the city’s sewer lift stations was struck by lightning, an event that prompted staff to create a standby emergency system to reduce future emergency repair costs and avoid expensive external pump‑out services.
Bollweg said the reservoir project is progressing and bids will be issued soon. He also described routine and event preparations: staff are reducing fuels by mowing and weeding across town, reflectors will be added to stop signs, and Palmerton Park bathrooms will be remodeled with new murals ahead of Rooster Crow. He invited the council and public to a water plant field trip in May to view recent upgrades.
Mayor Pro‑Tem Barb Hilty announced an Arbor Day tree planting at Palmerton Park April 24 at 12:30 p.m. and Bollweg warned of recent tagging in the city, asking residents to report vandalism: “We have had an issue with things getting ‘tagged’ in the city, so please let our department know when and if you see that going on.” He also announced smoke testing of storm drains and sewers scheduled May 5–15 to identify repairs needed.
