Council hears committee and liaison reports: chamber rename, school news, fire district staffing and ECSO update

At its March 26 meeting the Rogue River City Council received a series of committee and liaison updates covering business, schools, public safety and regional transportation.
Councilor Barb Hilty said the Chamber of Commerce will officially change its name to the Rogue River Chamber of Commerce and highlighted upcoming events including a May 30 installation and awards banquet (tickets $65). Councilor Barb Gregory reported the community center is running in the red, cited high utility costs tied to an electric van and said the center is looking to hire a manager/bookkeeper and to revise volunteer job descriptions. Councilor Mark Minegar noted the school district hired a new volleyball coach (Mrs. Westlake), confirmed funding for next year was stable and highlighted student achievements including a first‑place Brain Bowl finish.
Councilor Grace Howell summarized Jackson County Fire District #1 activity: two new personnel joined, the district spent about $10,000 on overtime last month due to illness, they approved a solar grant for 180 panels, and a new ambulance will be fitted with an updated table command system. City Administrator Ryan Nolan provided an ECSO staffing update noting 31 of 37 dispatch positions are filled, two dispatchers are in training, and that the agency is researching a new CAD system and switching to a new server.
