Colfax council approves intergovernmental jail contract (Resolution 25-20)

The Colfax City Council on Nov. 17 approved an intergovernmental incarceration agreement with the county to provide jail space for Colfax detainees. Public Works/administration (Hammer) told the council the contract option increases by $1,300; he contrasted the contract with the alternative of paying a $110 daily rate when the city has someone in custody and said the contract can make costs easier to budget.
Finance Amanda Link cautioned that arrest activity has been unpredictable this year, noting the first half of the year had no incarcerations while the second half differed. On a motion by Councilmember Mackleit, seconded by Councilmember Schaefer, the council adopted Resolution 25-20; the vote was roll call: all yes.
The agreement formalizes how the city pays for county housing of detainees; council members said the contract approach provides budgeting certainty despite variations in annual arrest activity.
