Council holds hearing on 2026 preliminary budget; no public comment

Mayor Jim Retzer opened a public hearing on the city’s 2026 preliminary budget on Nov. 17. Public Works/administration staff (Hammer) told the council the budget remains essentially unchanged from earlier drafts, with the only listed change a modification to the fee schedule to add county filing fees.
Councilmember Golden thanked staff for careful budgeting and said the city has done “a good job safeguarding its money,” while Councilmember Huntwork said the budgeting process is smoother than in prior years. There was no public testimony and no amendments recorded during the hearing.
The hearing serves as an early step in the annual budget process; council previously reviewed the budget at an October workshop and staff will continue required follow-up and final adoption steps in subsequent meetings.
