Board approves volunteers' workers' compensation resolution, audit engagement, procurement authority and vehicle for student transport

Chief Business Official Martin Rodriguez told trustees that community volunteers provide valuable services and recommended extending workers' compensation benefits to unpaid volunteers under Labor Code §3363.5; the board approved Resolution No. 2024‑10 by unanimous vote. Rodriguez also presented an engagement letter from Harshwal & Company LLP to audit Kern County Children and Families Commission (First 5) Shafter Healthy Start grant revenues and expenditures for July 1, 2023–June 30, 2024; the board accepted the engagement letter.
The board approved Resolution No. 2024‑11 permitting the district to purchase furniture, technology, materials and supplies via master contracts, piggyback bids, or master agreements for fiscal year 2024–25. Trustees also approved acquisition of a 2024 Chevrolet Trailblazer to support transportation of homeless and foster youth and after‑school activities, with a not‑to‑exceed purchase price of $28,445.19 funded from ARP‑HCY II / ESSER III. Each motion carried 5‑0.
