Board approves instructional materials, parenting workshops and revised English‑learner reclassification process

Assistant Superintendent Annette Blacklock presented the Williams Settlement 2023–24 fourth quarterly report and said the district had no complaints during the quarter and that curriculum, facilities and SARC items were found to comply with state review. The board approved the report as an informational item.
Blacklock also recommended approval of an agreement with Disciplina Positiva Inc. for two in‑person conferences and eight virtual parenting workshops aimed at helping caregivers support students' academic performance. Trustees approved the agreement. Mrs. Sagasta brought multiple instructional items forward: purchase of Academic Vocabulary Toolkit (AVT) student texts for grades 3–6 (to support Designated ELD instruction) and a four‑year extension for SAVVAS math student workbooks and online access for K–6; both purchases were approved. The board also approved a memorandum of understanding with Professional Tutors of America as an approved supplemental educational services provider. Finally, the board approved a revised K–8 reclassification process for English learners that replaces STAR ELA (Renaissance) with i‑Ready for the basic skills screening, and confirmed reclassification remains based on the four statutory criteria in Education Code Section 313(f).
