Town acknowledges broad FOIA request for Mass Gathering records tied to Iron Tails; administrator warns of time and staffing constraints

The Town Administrator told the Select Board she received a FOIA request from an attorney in Biddeford seeking extensive records about the Mass Gathering ordinance and all Select Board and Planning Board materials related to Iron Tails (559 Route 109) and the Renaissance Fair, including permit applications, staff packets, insurance records and communications dating back to Jan. 1, 2021.
She said state law requires two free hours of staff time and that the town must provide an estimate within five days; she estimated the work could take "at least a good solid week, if not, two weeks" and noted the office is short-staffed. The board discussed the ability to require a deposit and the town’s limited hourly charge ($25 per statute) and copying fee ($0.10 per page).
