At the Feb. 11 meeting the Richland Teachers Association recognized more than a dozen staff members for 20-plus years of service to the district and publicly conveyed a vote of confidence in Assistant Superintendent Annette Blacklock as the board considers the superintendent role.
RTA President Felicia Martinez provided names of teachers being honored and told the board RTA "formally offered a vote of confidence in Mrs. Blacklock's appointment" and requested a seat at the table if the board moves forward with an outside search. Several teachers in the audience also addressed the board in support of Blacklock earlier in the meeting. (SEG 003, SEG 004)
Board members thanked long-serving staff during the meeting; Trustee Criswell and Trustee DeWitt emphasized Blacklock's deep district experience and expressed concern about the retention record of external hires. The board acknowledged the union's request and proceeded with the search contract vote later in the meeting.
