Neodesha declares Fire Prevention Week; commission agrees to prepare bullying-prevention proclamations for October

Mayor Devin Johnson read a proclamation at the Sept. 24 meeting designating Oct. 5–11, 2025 as Fire Prevention Week and urging citizens to note the year’s theme: “Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.” The board recorded the proclamation in the minutes; no vote was required for the reading.
Separately the Governing Body welcomed Jeannie Mahaffey for a discussion about proclamations recognizing Mothers Against Bullying and National Bullying Prevention Month. Following the discussion, the commission reached a consensus for staff to prepare and present the requested proclamations at the October meetings; the minutes note no final action was taken at the Sept. 24 session.
