Police Chief Michael Melcher updated the Colfax City Council on staffing and recent enforcement activity at the Jan. 5 meeting. Melcher said one candidate remains in background processing and that the department will hold oral boards for new entry-level candidates on Jan. 29 to fill vacancies.
Melcher reported five recent arrests, specifying two for assault, two for malicious mischief, one warrant arrest and one theft. He told council he will provide an update on the death investigation on South Palouse River Road in the coming weeks. Councilor Huntwork asked whether the department promotes hiring statewide; Melcher said the city uses Public Safety Testing for its hiring process to broaden the candidate pool.
