Colfax council accepts $2.2 million bid for water system improvements

The Colfax City Council on Dec. 1 voted unanimously to accept Halme Construction Inc.’s $2,206,814 bid for the city’s Water System Improvement Project. City Administrator Matt Hammer told the council engineers verified the winning bid and that it fell near the middle of the bid range presented to the council.
The project is planned in two phases. Phase one will replace roughly 2,800 feet of mainline and about 200 individual water services. Phase two, scheduled to begin in 2027, will replace the water line that runs under the 195 bridge on Main Street.
Hammer said seven bids were received; other bidders submitted figures ranging from about $2.4 million up to $4.1 million. Councilmember Golden moved to accept Halme’s bid and Councilmember Schaefer seconded; the roll call vote was recorded as unanimous.
The council did not attach additional conditions at the meeting. The project timeline and procurement documents will proceed under the city’s public works contracting process; staff will present subsequent contract documents and construction schedules to the council as those details are finalized.
