Lift Station #7 pump replacement boosts capacity; District and fire department plan hydrant color-coding

Operations Manager Matt Brooks told the board that testing of the newly installed pump for the Banff and Bernina Booster Pump Replacement Project No. 250 increased capacity by about 75%, with the pump now operating at approximately 850–950 gallons per minute. That increase changes the local hydrant classification under proposed NFPA color codes from red (less than 500 GPM) to orange (500–999 GPM).
Brooks also described a March 5 meeting with Assistant Fire Chief Jason Serrano and Battalion Chief Nathan Lopez to coordinate a voluntary NFPA color-coding program for roughly 1,000 District hydrants to indicate flow capacity (light blue, green, orange, red). Brooks said the work will be a large undertaking and will require follow-up meetings; he noted District staff and contractors collaborated to move equipment by barge for the Lift Station #7 installation.
