Superintendent outlines budget outlook, construction progress, and math-adoption timeline

Superintendent Nathan Myers briefed the Kenwood School District Board on state budget conditions and district operations during the Feb. 5 meeting. He said the state and California are in a better fiscal position, boosted by the technology sector and income tax receipts, and that Prop 98 — the constitutional education funding guarantee — is expected to be fully funded; he also warned that some one-time funds will likely be allocated as restrictive block grants.

Myers gave a facilities update, reporting that "construction will be 99% done by end of Spring break," including a new parking lot, a grass field, new fencing in the transitional kindergarten area, resolved drainage work, and new roll-up doors on storage containers. He also described the Math Curriculum Committee process at the Sonoma County Office of Education (SCOE): 30 vendors presented, the district's last math adoption was 14 years ago, and staff will hear from the first of three publisher groups in two weeks with options to pilot materials for a year or select a program.
