Residents urge education and caution about large-scale wind, solar and data centers

Multiple residents and participants used the public-comment period to press the planning board for careful outreach and clearer public education about conservation easements and the potential impacts of industrial-scale projects.

Resident Sean told the board he appreciated that members were "taking it very seriously" and urged that the survey be coupled with public education; one commenter argued that private contracts with energy companies already imposed de facto zoning and warned that decommissioning costs could fall to landowners or the county. On visual and environmental impacts, speakers highlighted concerns about height and setback, water use for data centers and potential effects on migratory birds and sage grouse. As one participant said, "This is my own personal opinion. I feel like if we implement zoning in our county, it will be a snowball effect." The board acknowledged these concerns and incorporated a write-in 'other' option and height/setback language into the survey to gather resident preferences and to guide further education.
