Heritage Pines approves $19,200 Premier Lakes contract to replace SOLitude for pond algae treatment

The Heritage Pines Community Development District Board voted to replace its pond algae contractor, approving a $19,200 proposal from Premier Lakes that District Manager Chuck Adams said saved about $3,200 a year compared with the prior SOLitude contract.
Adams presented the proposal and said the product SOLitude uses is copper-based. He explained that the odor residents sometimes notice is caused by degasification of algae and generally dissipates after a couple of days. Adams said he would initiate SOLitude’s 30-day termination notice to end services on Nov. 30, 2024, with Premier Lakes scheduled to commence service on Dec. 1, 2024. On motion by Michael Walsh, seconded by Carol Vaughan, with all in favor, the Board approved the Premier Lakes, Inc. proposal for pond algae treatment in the amount of $19,200.
Several residents asked questions during the meeting about the product and vendor selection. Resident Susan Napolitano asked specifically what chemical SOLitude sprays into the lakes; Adams replied that a copper-based product is used to target algae. The Board instructed staff to follow up on reporting detail: Adams said the Premier Lakes report would include more specifics on which ponds were treated going forward.
The vendor switch also triggered housekeeping changes to the Board’s action list and vendor files; staff will confirm termination steps with SOLitude and the start date with Premier Lakes.
