At the Feb. 18 meeting, Chair Kathleen Lonergan read the Environmental Solutions (ES) scope of work for wetland NWRA-33, describing targeted removal and disposal of several dead or dying bushes and selective herbicide use to knock back vines that are up in the canopy. The scope describes hand-pulling weeds and weedwacking where equipment access is limited, and states crews cannot remove material larger than 5 inches in diameter.
"The task is for removal and disposal of several dead or dying bushes around the perimeter and wetland NWRA-33, specifically including the two dead oak and maple tree branches, southwest portion of the area, adjacent to water lilies," Lonergan read into the record. She noted the work area is transitional adjacent to backyards with standing dead leaves that cannot be mowed safely from the slope, so more selective hand work is planned.
District Manager Chuck Adams explained the ES proposal differs from the A‑Z Tree Service approach: "They are similar tasks but with different intensities and different methods; the areas done by ES will likely be more aesthetically pleasing because it is more of a handwork approach; whereas, A‑Z will use a forestry mulcher, which grinds everything." The board indicated the corrected ES proposal will proceed for work inside NWRA-33 as coordinated by the District Engineer and ES.
