Commission recommends conditional use and approves site plan for proposed Gluckstadt City Park

On June 23, 2026, the Gluckstadt Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended that the Mayor and Board of Aldermen approve a conditional use allowing the city to develop a park at 227 Calhoun Station Parkway and approved the park's site plan.
Chris Buckner, speaking on behalf of the City of Gluckstadt, described the project as including “a 2,700-square-foot playground and a pavilion with stage,” and said the city is working to secure an entrance from Gluckstadt Way in addition to the primary Calhoun Station Parkway access and an emergency-only Church Road access. Caine Dearman confirmed that utilities (power, water and sewer) will be run to the site and that trees along the west side will be left as a buffer.
The site plan presented to commissioners shows a tiered stage intended to reduce noise, an open-air pavilion design, and a total of 123 parking spaces (75 on the west side and 48 on the east). The detention pond included on the plan was shown with access intended to allow kayaks. Commissioner Patrick Beasley moved to recommend approval of the site plan; Commissioner Phillips King seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The Commission's recommendation will be forwarded to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen for final action. No substantive opposition was recorded during the public hearing.
