Selectmen suggest Cemetery Trustees consider funding cemetery flags; Patriotic Purposes budget currently covers Memorial Day events

During the July 22 meeting, Drew Cullen raised an invoice submitted by the American Legion seeking reimbursement for flags placed at town cemeteries. Cullen asked whether the town should reimburse the cost or whether the Cemetery Trustees could reimburse from their budget.
Town Administrator Ellen Smith explained that the Patriotic Purposes budget has typically paid for Memorial Day band, bagpipers and flowers and had sometimes paid to replace street flags, but cemetery flags historically were not funded from that line. Selectman Nelson recalled that cemetery flags were previously donated. The board recommended that the Cemetery Trustees consider adding cemetery flag costs to future budget requests.
