Town declines funding for Grange curtain restoration; will offer curtain to public

Town Clerk/Treasurer Patti McClure told the board that a Grange curtain currently stored in Marlin “Chip” Devenger’s barn could be eligible for a restoration grant but that the town’s out-of-pocket cost would be about $1,750. The Select Board concluded it did not need to fund restoration because the town lacks a place to house the curtain after restoration and said the item should be advertised in case a private party wants to restore it.
McClure said she would ask Elaine Bandy if she knew anyone who might take on the restoration and would advertise the curtain to gauge interest. The minutes record no motion to transfer ownership or to place the item on the town’s capital inventory; the board’s decision was advisory in the minutes.
