Cook Family Park nearing completion; staff weigh soft opening vs. splash-pad timing

Public Works and Parks staff updated the Council on Cook Family Park construction and logistics for opening. Director Neal Winterton said restrooms should be complete at the end of the month and most amenities could be available for a soft opening, but the splash pad requires a six-to-eight week cure period after the first concrete pour and the large pavilion installation will require temporary closures. Staff proposed an analysis on March 1, 2025, to recommend whether to proceed with a soft opening or wait for full completion.
Recreation Director Megan Zollinger and Parks Director Deon Giles said the park is already drawing visits during construction, and Staff suggested aiming for a grand opening in early June (tentative June 7 target) but not during Strawberry Days to avoid scheduling conflicts. Separately, the municipal pool rebuild (a roughly $3 million project including play structures and shade) is expected to open in late May pending schedule and budget confirmation; Staff recommended planning a grand-opening celebration closer to actual completion.
