Oak Park MAC motion seeking apology from RSRPD fails amid abstentions

The Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council considered a written letter asking Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District (RSRPD) to apologize to Oak Park residents over an October incident. Chair Brian Trushinski moved a recommendation that Supervisor Jeff Gorell request a written apology from RSRPD District Manager Dan Paranick. The motion, seconded by Vice Chair Michelle Santucci, received two yes votes and three abstentions (JL Diaz, Jane Nye and Brianna Adams), and therefore failed.
RSRPD Board Member Eric Lundstrom, serving as the District's liaison for District 5, told the Council he offered an apology on the District's behalf for the October 3 matter but said the Board had acted in closed session and could not discuss internal details. Lundstrom said he wants to rebuild ties with Oak Park and noted the District is pursuing creek restoration and invasive species removal pending state permitting. Chair Trushinski said Oak Park residents deserve meaningful input on park and trail planning and suggested reestablishing the RSRPD Oak Park Planning Committee with clearer rules for member conduct.
