Board approves temporary Olivewood–Riverside conveyance to restore water to customers while pipeline repairs proceed

Robin Glenny, assistant general manager of water, said the Olivewood pipeline leak shut wells and left customers without water; the proposed work — to be performed by RPU Waterfield Forces — has an estimated cost of about $97,000 (work order 2627304) that Gage Canal shareholders will reimburse in full. Staff said conveyance fees will not be charged to Gage for this transfer.
A caller, Carl Fong (identifying himself as a member of the Gage Canal board), asked the board to table the item until the full Gage board had a chance to review and vote; other board members said an e-mail vote by the Gage board had taken place and emphasized the urgency because customers on Rumsey Drive had been without water for about a year. Board members asked staff to confirm the Gage board’s authorization in writing for the City Council meeting the next day; the board voted to approve the recommendation and forward it to council for execution by the city manager or designee.
