The board approved a financial package to support Calipatria High School football and discussed adding a zero period course for athletics.
Trustee Brittany Saiza moved โ and Trustee Frank Perez seconded โ a motion to match $10,000 in funds for the CHS football team; the motion passed by roll call vote of 7 ayes. The board also agreed to raise a coach stipend from $1,500 to an additional $3,500. Trustee Diego Navarro expressed support for zero period and recommended that a certificated person oversee the program and that staff explore Title III funding options. The zero period course item was discussed but ultimately tabled for later consideration.
Parents and community members had urged support during public forum: Tania Solorio reported the Booster Club "has already raised $12,000," and Mr. Stewart noted the school "currently has 58 students in football" and said he would offer zero period as credit/no-credit with accountability measures in place.
