Trustees approve interdistrict transfers, graduation dates and overnight Joshua Tree trip

At the April 14 meeting, the Calipatria Unified Board approved a set of interdistrict attendance petitions for both the 2024–25 and 2025–26 school years. The approved 2025–26 petitions include transfers for TK, grades K, 3, 6, and 10 for reasons listed such as parent employment and childcare. Trustees approved the item by roll call (motion by Trustee Frank Perez, seconded by Trustee Brittany Saiza).
The board also approved outdoor high school graduation on June 4, 2025 at 8:00 p.m. and Bill E. Young Middle School promotion on June 5, 2025 at 8:00 p.m., both at Veteran’s Field. The board approved an overnight student camping trip to Joshua Tree National Park for April 25–26, 2025; the trip was described as an astronomy engagement involving approximately 15 students and three chaperones.
Trustee Michael Fong commented during the petitions item that students with behavioral issues should be denied transfers; the minutes record his objection but the board approved the petitions. The graduation and trip approvals were recorded as passed by roll call with six ayes and one absent trustee.
