The Calipatria Unified School District Board on April 14 approved the purchase through CMAS of MUSCO sports field lighting to support Expanded Learning Opportunity Programs (ELOP) at Bill E. Young Jr. Middle School and Fremont Primary School. The quote was received from MUSCO Sports Lighting, LLC through Sourcewell cooperative purchasing (Reference Sourcewell 041123-MSL). The motion passed by roll call with six ayes.
District staff said ELOP operates from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and that darkness after school limits student activities and raises safety concerns. The board approved Phase 1 funding for installations at BYMS and Fremont Primary to extend usable hours for supervised activities and address lighting-related safety issues.
The board’s action authorizes procurement through the cooperative contract; the minutes record the vendor and cooperative source but do not list the final contract value in the public minutes. Implementation will proceed through the business office and facilities department as a Phase 1 campus project.
