Board approves State Planning & Research study, asks Riverview and highway superintendent to coordinate

The Kingsbury County Board voted Feb. 17, 2026 to approve a State Planning & Research Program study related to road improvements. The motion by Commissioner Troy Nelson, seconded by Chairman Kyle Lee, passed unanimously.
Josh Schmidt of Riverview LLC met with the board and Highway Superintendent Dave Sorenson to discuss which roads beyond 425th Ave Redstone Dairy would like improved. The board instructed Schmidt and Sorenson to collaborate on timelines, project quotes, engineering needs and funding responsibilities to ensure the county study would not overlap Riverview's planning. Sorenson had earlier told the board that bids for the 425th Ave project would be opened Feb. 24 at Civil Design, Inc. in Brookings.
