Kingsbury County adopts rangeland fire assistance resolution, names rural fire coordinator

Auditor Echo Steffensen presented the resolution, which lists Emergency Manager Kristen Longville and Sheriff Steve Strande as individuals authorized to request rangeland fire assistance and "BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that Echo Steffensen, Auditor, is appointed County Rural Fire Coordinator for the County of Kingsbury." The resolution is effective May 20, 2026. The board moved to adopt Resolution 2026-6 (motion by Corey Lundquist, second by Troy Nelson); the roll call vote was Lee aye, Spilde aye, Walls aye, Lundquist aye, Nelson aye.
The appointment gives the Auditor administrative authority to act as the countypoint person for burn bans, billings and questions about the Rangeland Fire Agreement until modified or rescinded by the board. The resolution also establishes daytime and emergency contact numbers for the named officials and is intended to streamline requests for state rangeland fire assistance.
