Kyle Lee elected chairman; Corey Lundquist named vice chairman of Kingsbury County board

On Jan. 6, 2026 the Kingsbury County Board unanimously elected Commissioner Kyle Lee as chairman and Commissioner Corey Lundquist as vice chairman and voted to keep existing board appointments for 2026.
The Kingsbury County Board of County Commissioners unanimously elected Commissioner Kyle Lee as chairman and Commissioner Corey Lundquist as vice chairman during its Jan. 6, 2026 meeting in De Smet. The nominations were moved and seconded and the board “cast a unanimous vote” for Lee to serve as chairman and later approved Lundquist as vice chairman.
After the leadership votes, the board voted to retain its committee and liaison assignments for 2026. The assignments read into the record included: Commissioner Troy Nelson (Contract Law, Health Insurance, Courthouse Assistant, Emergency Management, Railroad Authority); Lundquist (First Planning District, Labor Negotiations); Roger Walls (Weed Board, Glacial Lakes, SD Public Assurance Alliance, 4‑H & Fair Board); Lee (Courthouse Assistant, Child Protection, ICAP liaison, Health Insurance alternate); and Steve Spilde (Courthouse, Human Services, Labor Negotiation, SD Public Assurance Alliance). The board approved keeping the prior appointments by motion.
The board’s reorganization follows normal annual practice for committee assignments and will guide which commissioners represent Kingsbury County on various intergovernmental and advisory bodies in 2026. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Jan. 20, 2026.
